Lead/Follow: Tending the Dance

A Contact Improvisation and Body-Mind Centering® workshop

with Deb Grant and Carl Rudman

Friday evening, May 9 (6 pm-9:15 pm)

and Saturday (10 am-5 pm), May 10, 2013

at Bath Dance Works--72 Front Street, Bath, Maine

The ebb and flow of LEAD/FOLLOW and the interplay of our intention/attention has many layers and permutations.  While there are times when we find ourselves literally leading or following someone on the dance floor, the relationship between intention and attention is often much more subtle.    In this workshop we will investigate LEAD/FOLLOW (Intention/Attention) through the related movement modalities of BMC® and Contact Improvisation.

Your teachers for this workshop are:

Deb Grant, LCSW, RSME is a graduate of the School for Body-Mind Centering® Somatic Movement Educator program, with yoga teacher certifications in Yoga and Developmental Movement as well as Chakra Yoga. Her seventeen years’ experience as a psychotherapist as well as her strong and varied background in dance, mime, theater, mindfulness and bodywork deeply informs her approaches to movement, dance and yoga. She is passionate about sharing improvisational dance with others, helping students of all levels to deepen and broaden their inner world of movement.

Carl Rudman originally began dancing with long time mentor Margaret Gould Wescott and subsequently studied with a variety of internationally known teachers and performers, including David Beadle, K.J. Holmes, Martin Keogh,

We encourage a commitment to the entire weekend. First preference regarding available slots will be given to those who plan to be with us for the entire event.  We will consider requests for partial attendance.  If space is available, we may accommodate such requests, at our discretion.  If you have a concern with the schedule or wish to discuss possible alternatives, please contact Carl or Deb.

This is not a residential workshop.  However, for events like this, our community has a history of making an effort to provide a limited number of “hosts.”  These are people who’ve offered sleeping space and carpooling to and from the workshop sessions for people traveling from afar.  We will do our best to help out in this way again, if necessary.  We can also provide information on local commercial accommodations in the Bath-Brunswick area.  If you’re coming from a distance and would like to try to find a place to stay for either night, please notify us when you register.  We will need adequate lead time to try and make arrangements.  If you live within reasonable traveling distance to Bath, please consider offering to serve as a host.  Let us know as soon as possible if you are willing and able to provide sleeping space in your home for one or more guests.

Friday dinner is on your own. We will have a pot-luck lunch together on site Saturday. Bring something to contribute if you can.
